Budapest struck Chase as a war zone of aesthetic styles. There was the classicism of the past; the huge monolithic monuments of the Hapsburg empire, and there was the shoddy presence of the Communist past all bumping against each other everywhere. He concentrated on the quirky decay, made more vivid surrounded by classic architecture forms.
