Chase returned from New York City with a number of exotic papers, which he was anxious to continue using. His first book when he returned home was one which reduced the visual scheme to a minimum so that the passing of time (as the pages were turned) had a visual component.  He was fascinated by the folded paper used often in Japan as a serious element of design, which gave the book it's title.
