In 1969 Chase was given a large retrospective of his work at the Crocker Art Gallery in Sacramento, a joint show with the French artist Dubuffet. His work now mixed photographs with windows filled with three-dimensional landscapes. He continued to exhibit his work, but many pieces entered collections before they were seen by the public.
