CHANGING BOOK SERIES 1990

 

Change and transformation have been one of the constant themes in Chase's work. In the late sixties some of Chase's friends were busy cleaning out a Jewish church so it could become the Fillmore Auditorium.  One brought him this receipt book from the Jewish cemetery in early San Francisco. Context becomes important in the way we see the world around us, and variation, change of color and tone can alter what we think.
